Revealed!
Real reason Nollywood producers use Ghanaian stars

Ever wondered why some Nigerian producers make use of Ghanaian stars in most of Nollywood movies even when some of them appear to be unsuitable for the roles they are playing? Showbiz Now can authoritatively reveal that N1 million is in the heart of the matter. Or as one actor put it, our producers have sold their souls for a N1million .

Investigation reveals that Nollywood producers have been given an order by Ghanaian marketers that for them (Ghanaian marketers) to market Nollywood movies in Ghana , Ghollygold ( Ghana film industry) stars must feature in them whether they fit the bill or not.

One particular marketer who attested to this is Abdusallam, Ghana’s most prominent movie marketer. Abdusallam, we learnt tells Nollywood producers to use Ghanaians and get a N1 million market order from him. He was said to have paid some producers even before they finish shooting sometimes.

So, for this N1 million Greek gift, our Nollywood producers are falling head over heels to use Ghanaian stars in their movies whether they fit the role or not. And to make matters worse, some of these Ghanaian stars have not been able to justify the trust reposed in them. Worse still, Nollywood stars have to wait of their Ghollywood counterparts in some instances. We learnt that Jackie Appiah kept a whole crew waiting to go and shoot a Glo commercial.

The crew complained but Jackie came back and explained that she already gave the producer a condition that for her to act she must leave for the Glo advert anytime she wanted to. That is a classic example of how producers now have to literarily eat out of the hands of the Ghollygold stars.

But one producer who does not see anything wrong in the N1 million Greek gift is Ikechukwu Onyeka. He said the Ghanaian actors are patriotic. ‘I don’t see anything wrong in the arrangement; it is a sign of patriotism. This shows that we are doing something wrong. If Ghana which has a population of about 24 million can call our bluff that means our house is not in order. We ought to be the biggest movie market in Africa but here we are at the mercy of Ghanaians. Let me shock you, Ghanaian movies now sell more than Nollywood movies in America . That shows that we are losing ground. .

Oluchi, I think you should not be negative or insultive. Try and highlight the strength of your fellow countrymen. That would add up to you more. Have you ever heard that if you point a finger at someone, the other four point to you?Watch your manners!

Woo woo slow down bretheren. I'm a Ghanaian, and a proud one at that. In the 70s to early 90s, though a few, Ghanaian movies were really really good. Then they became ghost stories and witches later on, and so painful and boring to watch. You Nigerians picked it up, polished it and you shine, yes you shine! Now Ghanaians have started to pick up our pieces and trying to re-build. And If we are doing it in colabo with you, I think its okay. Aside the movie industry, Nigerians are almost pushing us out in our own backyard. Our music, banks, universities, ladies& gentlemen, but we treat you well here in Ghana, we love you and call you our Nija brothers. Lets not stress and negate but rather enjoy the diversity in culture and talents. Its all about love for Mama Africa.

Ghanaian actors n actresses r growing 2day because of nollyhood.Rather than they putting up such conditions b4 letting out their actors n actress, they r suppose 2 let all of them out 4 free bcos they r only coming 2 learn wat they don't knw. They can never b compared 2 our STARS.I Wish our producers would come 2 dis knowledge. all d same its a shame.

what is wrong with using Ghanians. If a Ghanian marketer can offer 1 million Naira for what he wants, then Nigerian Marketers should know that something is wrong. 24 million against 150 million population. Nigeria is messed up you know. I like Ghanian actors, they are our brothers and sisters. We lose face everywhere because of our stupid leadership

Nigerians always running scared of Ghanaians. I used to be a fun of Nigerian movies but I now enjoy Ghanaian movies more cos of their sound quality and clear pictures, you always have to stress your ears when watching a Nigerian movie. Look all you Nigerians need to do is just go and learn a few things from the Ghanaians. My whole family and friends in France, London, America now prefer watching Ghanaian movies. Is like the moment any Ghanaian movie hits the market, the news spread around like wild fire in europe and america and they rush for it, if they dont get it then I have to post it to them from Cameroun here. So I think is not matter of sacking the Ghanaian actors and actress just do a research and find out why they are overthrowing the Nigerian industry and just learn that is all. By the way Genevieve Nnajie is still my favourite actress and no Ghanaian actress comes close to her acting and why is she doing a lot of movies with this Ghanaian lad Majid Michel? Hes good though.

Where were Ghanian actors/actresses when Nollywood was not in existence? . Where was Gollygold or whatever before Nollywood came along? It is so obvious from watching most Ghanian actors/actresses that they seriously lack acting skills; the focus is more on the looks than on their acting skills. Van Wicker, for example, as an actor is just wndow dressing with no substance! Oh btw, Nigerians will never fail to sell their souls for money. And, you wonder why there is no unity among Nigerians and in Nigeria today. Shameful!

To me comming together or acting together is not bad is a good idea which will help the industry alot inteams of selling and promoting so what i can say now let thay be good team betweeen the industry because if all are africa. THNAKS ..

Granted, Ghananians are more patriotic than Nigerians. Nigerians are simply not patriotic, and that includes me. The reason, very obvious. It all stems from the low level leadership and poli-tricks in the Nigerian polity, the corruption in high places and the indifference that public office occupiers are known by. Can anybody, in the name of God, tell me on what account any Nigerian must be patriotic. Is it for the un-ending lines of people queing for fuel in gas stations in a country that is the #5 global producer of the crude? After obtaining a pharmacy degree from a Nigerian university, I am employed somewhere overseas, because in my country illitrate igbo men have my job. So, let anyone talking about 'patriotism' go and eat big-fat-shit! Nonesense!
