In what could only aptly be described as a ‘homecoming’, ‘I’ll Take My Chances’ the hit movie produced by Emem Isong & Ini Edo berthed in the Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on the 24th of September 2011.
The premiere marked the climax of week-long activities put together by the State in commemoration of Akwa Ibom’s 24th year Anniversary. The town was alight with stars like Richard Mofe-damijo, Ramsey Nouah, Genevieve Nnaji, Uche Jombo, Monalisa Chinda, Nonso Diobi, Uti Nwachukwu etc who were flown in specially for the event and accommodated at the spectacular Le Meridien Ibom Hotel & Resorts for the weekend. In an unprecedented move the powers that be went all out to support their two illustrious daughter who had made their state very proud by excelling in their fields.
The premiere proper was witnessed by high profile guests, top government functionaries in the state including His Excellency, Governor Godswill Akpabio who took time out of his very busy schedule to not just attend but at a point even MC the occasion! He was accompanied by his lovely wife, Mrs Ekaette Unoma Akpabio was also thoroughly enjoyed the show. It was truely a spectacular night. A marching band was on stand by serenading the crowd and entertainment was performed by Darlene Benson, Spanished-based singer, Ashley Stephanie local based artiste Mitch who all rendered sweet tunes to the delight of the crowd. Then the movie was then premiered to much applause. The occasion was MC’ed by the very mature and humourous comedian, Basorge Tariah jnr whose mature jokes were just perfect for the occasion. A minutes silence was held for the late Sam Loco one of the actors in the film and he was represented by his two sons who came in from Benin. In all it was a truely spectacular night!
